Jets Ready To Move On From Sanchez

According to the Daily News, Rex Ryan and John Idzik and most of the teams personnel are on board with moving on from Mark Sanchez and starting Geno Smith week 1. Sources told the Daily News that Ryan believes Geno is the better option and the right move to start this season if his ankle is 100 percent. Sanchez isn't likely to suit up against the Buccaneers anyway come week 1 so it is a no brainer that Geno is going to start, this decision that Rex has made though is for Geno to play throughout the entire season and evaluate him. The Jets want to see how Geno does through an entire season to see if they will take another QB in next years draft.

A starter would have been named earlier if Rex rested Geno during practice after he hurt his ankle in the preseason game against the Jaguars. Even though Sanchez was solid through practice and was accurate in games he kept making rookie mistakes against the lions where he threw a pick that was returned for a touchdown and when he failed to recognize the clock against the Jaguars which resulted in no points for the Jets before halftime. It was his repeated red zone mistakes that made this decision that much easier for Rex and co.

The Jets will find out week 1 if Geno is the answer at the QB position.
