Jets First Half Notes

The New York Jets are playing their last preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The game started off with Matt Simms throwing with what should've been an interception but the linebacker dropped it. The drive ended with two sacks and Simms getting sacked in the endzone for a safety. The Jets defense held its own limiting Philly to 5 points and getting a couple sacks a long with a forced fumble by Ricky Sapp who has finally showed up in preseason and is likely to make the final 53 man roster. Simms bounced back with a couple of nice throws and escaped some pressure. Simms is playing for the 3rd quarterback spot and might take Greg McElroys spot since he is hurt and unable to play in the final preseason game. Running back Khalil Bell might make the final cut as Mike Goodson is suspended the first four games of the season. Bell showed good speed along with some nice cuts and vision behind this Jets backup line. Bell lined up in the wildcat and ran in it for a touchdown from about 10 yards out.

- Recently acquired Jason Smith struggled mightily against the backups of the Eagles defensive line. Smith was beaten multiple times off the edge and showed that he can't block in the run game. He is likely to be cut and once again a free agent.

- According to NFL.com, Mark Sanchez is unlikely to play in the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he is still recovering from a deep right shoulder bruise and has yet to throw since he suffered the injury in last weeks game against the Giants. Look forward to seeing Geno Smith behind center come week 1.
